Jackcb landscapes
"I wanted to create some paintings that your Mum would say 'That's nice dear' - although my landscapes still have a slight expressionist style to them".
A lot of people ask why I don't paint people in my work. I'm not overly interested in the visual representation of people and like to paint scenes that can't be dated by the clothing people wear. These person-less scenes will last longer than a person so my work are of scenes that will be the same in hundreds of years and be applicable to someone viewing them in the distant future.
The sea has always fascinated me. Living on an island most of my life I've always been drawn to the sea. Wondering what lies beyond the waves is something I like to reflect in my work. My painting 'Cromer' is a Nan's favourite - I like Cromer, it is a perfect example of a British seaside Victorian resort that hasn't changed much - JackCB

Cromer
"Using acrylics you can wash out the colour as if you was painting with watercolours, the sea and sky blended in and I used a style of blue outlines for the buildings which Renoir did all those years ago" - JackCB

Margate Marina
"Everyone loves a good storm, but being viewed from the warmth of a house on the docks, or through a painting. I felt I captured the violence of the waves using gesso which is a technique I have adapted." - JackCB

Down South
"I'm going to be honest, I ripped of his lordship Hockney. I was using the blue outlines like Renoir and decided to apply some of the most gregarious colours, I now know what David Hockney means about colour is everywhere in nature, you just have to look" - JackCB

Base Camp
"This canvas has three paintings behind it, the textures built up almost give it a collage type of feel. I watched a documentary on Everest and the vast campsite at basecamp. The use of triangles and squares in the painting made them look like tents" - JackCB

Landscape - Country House
"As I was driving through Bedfordshire there was this amazing sunset and on the horizon a church, castle and manor house silhouetted against the setting sun. I took some photos given the time and then got to work in the studio - they are three canvases in a row" - JackCB
